Children's Book Illustrator

Freelance (February 2005 - present)

Naturally I've been drawing all my life, though I confess it has been with varying frequency. At the age of seven I rejected the label of artist that the other children put upon me, but by the age of twelve I had resigned to my fate. However, the label Illustrator came much later.

Through highschool I attended weekend drawing classes under the instruction of David Zuccarini. Truly, if I know anything about shape and color it because of those Saturday mornings in his class.

While in community college Joe Thiel set me on the road to Buffalo. Joe was my Intro to Illustration teacher and had himself graduated from SUNY Buffalo which boasted an outstanding illustration program in those days. So I transferred and was soon studying under Alan Cober, Kathleen Collins Howell, Scott Swales, Joel Peter Johnson and Anita Kunz. After three years I headed home with a BFA in hand.

After college I dabbled in editorial illustration but soon found myself designing and illustrating educational software for Calvert School. Years later I had fallen into designing websites full-time. In fact, I'm still designing websites while still holding tightly to my pastels.

Last Autumn I was blessed with the opportunity to illustrate Alice in Wonderland for the Steps Inside series published by Fernleigh Books in the U.K. Now a year later I have my copies of the U.K. version and anxiously awaiting the series to arrive in the U.S. In years past Sterling has published the other books of the series in the United States and so it is hoped Alice won't be left out. I am told that the series is currently printed in 19 languages from Russian to Estonian.

My dear wife, Jenn, is quited talented proving herself the artist in everything she attempts. Here we are at the Sheep and Wool Festival.

I also happen to have a gallery of portraits.

Fantasy and Sci-Fi concept art is something I indulge in when I have time.
